Pomegranate export volume from Peru increased by 26% this season

The pomegranate campaign in Peru is approaching its home stretch, reaching a record for the Peruvian agro-export sector. According to Fresh Fruit, through May 27, Peru had shipped 48,462 tons of pomegranate for $92 million, up 26% in volume and 14% in value from the same date last year.

Main destinations
Peruvian pomegranate exports reached 37 destinations worldwide, 4 more than the previous season. The Netherlands was the main destination market for this fruit, with a share of 61%, followed by Canada and the United Kingdom. Until last year, Russia was the second most important destination for Peruvian pomegranate with a share of 17%. In 2022, following the war conflict in Ukraine, Russia has become the sixth destination market, with only 4% share.

Peru exported 29,797 tons of pomegranate to the Netherlands for $53 million, 44% more in volume and 24% more in value than the previous season. Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Netherlands became the country that brought the Peruvian pomegranate to the countries of Eastern Europe. In this market, the price of the Peruvian pomegranate stood at 1.79 dollars per kilogram, 14% less than the previous year.

In May, Peru exported 6,481 tons of pomegranates to Canada for $3 million, 34% more in volume and 33% more in value than in the previous season. This market paid one of the highest prices for the Peruvian pomegranate, after the United States ($4.26 per kilogram)

Peruvian pomegranate exports to the UK totaled 5,571 tonnes for $3 million, 36% higher in volume and 30% higher in value than the previous season. On this market, the price of the Peruvian pomegranate stood at 1.75 dollars per kilogram, 14% less than the previous year. This market paid one of the lowest prices for pomegranate.
