A Peruvian municipality on the country’s north Pacific coast caused a stir with its latest artistic erection.
The town of Moche erected a monument honoring a pre-Inca culture, known for its propensity to produce sexually explicit ceramics.
Hoping to attract tourists, the city has added the statue of an indigenous Mochica man with a giant penis to its list of attractions.
The statue, a replica of a pre-Inca Mochica ceramic, like those usually found in the tombs of this region, is made of fiberglass measuring three meters high and whose phallus is 1.5 meters long.
Experts say members of the Mochica culture known for their extensive irrigation systems to water their crops in one of the driest places on earth – sexual activity intertwined with the fertility of the land and the cultivation of crops.
âDifferent from Greek culture! “
“Our strength comes from the fact that our ancestors of the Mochica culture left us, âsaid Mayor of Moche Cesar Fernandez standing proudly next to the statue.
âWe have been more aggressive and more direct with our feelings and they (the tourists) see that in every act (erotic pottery) the Ugly have done for 800 years. The Greeks had a different kind of representation. We were more aggressive and more direct with our feelings. “
Fernandez says he plans to place nine more Mochica-inspired erotic statues in his town.
Since being placed next to the highway on January 1, 2022, this northern Peruvian city has seen a marked increase in tourism as hundreds of people take their photos next to the statue and then share them on Social media.
